Hey, future jags! This week, I'm letting you know a little about myself. So, here's 5 facts about me:  1.) I'm from Louisiana . Only a few hours from home, South is the place for me. I can go home for some of my favorite Louisiana foods, including gumbo, jambalaya, and beignets, and still have fun at school in Mobile. I'm excited to see how a Mobile Mardi Gras will compare to how we "let the good times roll" at home. We'll have to see who the winner is for best Mardi Gras! 2.)  I love Mexican food. Who doesn't??? It is THE BEST. Queso, enchiladas, tacos, burritos, chimichangas...you can't go wrong! You can often find me in a Mexican restaurant having my own little fiesta with friends. 3.) I'm Pre-Medicine. One of my main career goals is to become a physician. I have always had a passion for medicine and helping people, and I'm really excited to start my journey in combining these passions into my career as a doctor. One day, I hope to...

I'll never forget my first time at South! From the moment I stepped on campus here, I could tell this was somewhere I could call home. I had looked at many places to start my next chapter in life, but at South, I got this feeling of welcome and positivity that nowhere else could beat. I came for my campus tour in October of my senior year, and throughout the tour, everyone was friendly with me, eager to help me, and willing to answer my numerous questions. Everyone was happy to lend a helping hand.   Additionally, I enjoyed the fact that South had a Biomedical Sciences program and a great college for allied health programs. I loved the low professor to student ratio as well. Most of all, this place was somewhere I felt that I could grow. From my very first visit, one that I will never forget, South became somewhere to have fun, call home, and learn to do great things. There is nowhere like it, and I am proud to be a jaguar!

Finally, it is FALL! Although it still hasn't any gotten cooler yet here in Mobile, fall means fall break for USA students! Fall break is the perfect time to take a rest from all the stress college life can sometimes bring. My plans for the break include visiting family and friends at home, exercising, and watching some good movies.  1. Visiting family and friends: There is nothing like seeing old friends and your family again! I can't wait to eat a home-cooked meal with some of my favorite people (and dogs). Seeing my friends is awesome, too! I'm so excited to reconnect with them and see how they have been enjoying their college experiences.  2. Exercising: Working out, in any form, is a great way to make the mid-term stress melt away. I hope to go bike riding with my sister and enjoy spending time with her while de-stressing. For me, exercise is a good way to relax, and that's exactly what I'm needing right now. :) 3. Watching some good movies: Fall b...

College is a BIG step in life, one that can often times be a little stressful or frightening. Here are my top 5 ways for making sure your transition into college goes as smoothly as possible:      1. Apply for scholarships and programs early! Scholarships can help A LOT with the financial side of coming to a university. Make sure you apply to South by December 1, so you meet the priority deadline. Once admitted, you can start applying for other scholarships on JagSpot.      2. Get familiar with student organizations! Go to South's webpage to see a list of our numerous clubs and organizations on campus. We have something for everyone! Getting involved will definitely make campus life a lot more fun and meaningful!      3. Get connected with other students coming to USA! After I came to visit South, I knew it was the school for me. When I received my acceptance letter and scholarship information, I was SO excited! I was officially part of the Jaguar family! It felt so amazing to finally know where I would be spending some of the most influential years of my life! I felt confident and relieved to know that I had been accepted into a place I could call home for the next four years. Applying to South was definitely one of the best decisions I have made. I would encourage anyone to apply and look into South because it has given me so many opportunities in education, friendship, research, and fun. Even though I have not been here very long, I am proud to call USA my university and am happy to be a jag!

Hello, my name is Jolie! I'm from Mandeville, Louisiana, and I'm a Biomedical Sciences major. Starting here at South has been so much fun. When I came to visit campus last fall, I immediately fell in love with South's campus atmosphere. South's community of students, professors, and faculty have all been so welcoming and helpful. Outside of class, I have been able to attend so many fun events, including football games, fitness classes, club meetings, and service opportunities. From the first day on campus, I have met people who care about their education and helping me grow in my own. I am glad I chose South not only as my university but as somewhere I can call home!
