What I've Learned Since I've Become a Jag

Image
Just this past fall, I joined the Jag family! Since then, I've had learned so much about myself and about what I have studied here at USA. Being a freshman and moving away from home, I learned how to be independent. Throughout the year, I have worked on better managing my time to do all of the fun things South offers while staying on top of my school work. When I had bad days, I learned how to pick myself up and keep going, like all of us jags do. Most of all, I learned that South Alabama's Jaguar Family really is a family. The people that I met here welcomed me, and I have made so many lasting connections and friendships here. South Alabama has definitely become a home for me and has given me so many new friends! I'm so excited to continue to grow as a Jag and learn more with each year that I am here at South. I hope each of you enjoy your time here, and go Jags!

Advice for Myself 1 Year Ago

Image
One year ago, I was a high school senior, just getting out of school and ready to graduate. Since then, I have grown a lot and come to know more about myself and what I hope to accomplish. College can be called a lot of different things, but one thing for sure is that it is a growing experience. If I could give myself advice one year ago, it would be to have fun, but make use of your time. I had a lot of fun the summer before college, but looking back now, I could have worked more to prepare for the year ahead. I wish I had spent more time with family and friends, volunteering in the community, and reviewing what I would need in class my first year. The summer before school is also a great time to get a summer job or take some vacations to places you have always wanted to go. This time last year, I would've told myself to enjoy being at home and with friends and family there, but be open to change and ready for a new adventure. Don't worry too much because although college

5 Tips Before Coming to South Alabama

Image
Hey, future Jags! Here are my 5 tips for preparing to come to South Alabama: 1. Register for orientation: As soon as you get accepted to South, sign up for an orientation session that works for you! We have many summer sessions to choose from, and you can register on our website at https://www.southalabama.edu/departments/orientation/ . Attending orientation will help you become more familiar with campus and some new students before officially becoming a Jag in the fall! 2. Sign up for housing: Apply to housing to secure your spot on campus at South Alabama! Living on campus is close to everything and helps you make connections. Once you're admitted, I would recommend signing up for housing at https://www.southalabama.edu/departments/housing/ . There are many options of residence halls to choose from, and we even have a roommate matching system. 3. Hang out with hometown family and friends: If you're moving far away from home, I recommend spending some quality time with your

It's Spring in Mobile!

It's springtime here in Mobile! As the end of the semester draws near, it always cheers me up to walk outside into some nice, spring weather. It's even better that there are plenty of places to have fun in the sun near South's campus! There are many beaches not too far from and some pretty parks and outdoor spaces near USA.       One of my favorite places is Langan Park. It is super close to campus and is perfect for biking, eno-ing, jogging, picnic-ing, and more! I like to go here with friends to take my mind off of school and stress and to focus on enjoying Mobile's nice weather and outdoor space in the spring.  Even if you have to do some school work, it is an awesome space to get some fresh air and experience springtime while doing so. I think that it is a great place to relax and unwind as spring semester begins to come to a close. Happy Spring!!
