A Week in My South Alabama Life

Hey, future jags! Here is a look into a week, for me, at South Alabama... Throughout the week, I go to class, work, the Rec Center, and hang out with friends! My weeks are usually pretty busy, but that's not a bad thing for me! I've got class every day, and then, I go to work or my dorm. Outside of class, I'm usually in the library studying or doing homework with friends. I also love to go to the Rec Center, especially for one of their cycling classes! It helps me de-stress after a long, busy week. I try to go to as many classes there as possible. They have lots to choose from, so I can mix it up from week to week.
As it usually does in Mobile, it rained this past week A LOT. It wasn't the best for walking to class, but campus was still really pretty after it all! I'm glad the rain stopped for Saturday, though, because we had USA Day!
 This week, I did all of this, and I got to attend USA Day! USA Day is a super fun day filled with all things South! You can get to see everything we offer on campus and get to know South in person. It was really fun to work and experience, and I definitely enjoyed meeting everyone there :)
     Usually, my weeks are packed full, but I still enjoy them and try to make the most of each of them here at South! Ready for a great new week!

It's Spring in Mobile!

      It's springtime here in Mobile! As the end of the semester draws near, it always cheers me up to walk outside into some nice, spring weather. It's even better that there are plenty of places to have fun in the sun near South's campus! There are many beaches not too far from and some pretty parks and outdoor spaces near USA.       One of my favorite places is Langan Park. It is super close to campus and is perfect for biking, eno-ing, jogging, picnic-ing, and more! I like to go here with friends to take my mind off of school and stress and to focus on enjoying Mobile's nice weather and outdoor space in the spring.  Even if you have to do some school work, it is an awesome space to get some fresh air and experience springtime while doing so. I think that it is a great place to relax and unwind as spring semester begins to come to a close. Happy Spring!!

Hey, future Jags! Here are my 5 tips for preparing to come to South Alabama: 1. Register for orientation: As soon as you get accepted to South, sign up for an orientation session that works for you! We have many summer sessions to choose from, and you can register on our website at https://www.southalabama.edu/departments/orientation/ . Attending orientation will help you become more familiar with campus and some new students before officially becoming a Jag in the fall! 2. Sign up for housing: Apply to housing to secure your spot on campus at South Alabama! Living on campus is close to everything and helps you make connections. Once you're admitted, I would recommend signing up for housing at https://www.southalabama.edu/departments/housing/ . There are many options of residence halls to choose from, and we even have a roommate matching system. 3. College is a BIG step in life, one that can often times be a little stressful or frightening. Here are my top 5 ways for making sure your transition into college goes as smoothly as possible:      1. Apply for scholarships and programs early! Scholarships can help A LOT with the financial side of coming to a university. Make sure you apply to South by December 1, so you meet the priority deadline. Once admitted, you can start applying for other scholarships on JagSpot.      2. Get familiar with student organizations! Go to South's webpage to see a list of our numerous clubs and organizations on campus. We have something for everyone! Getting involved will definitely make campus life a lot more fun and meaningful!      3. Get connected with other students coming to USA! Follow us on social media to stay up-to-date on events and important deadlines. You can join the USA Class of 2023 Facebook group to start making friends with other students at South before you even get here!
