My Life as a Biomedical Sciences Student!

Hey, future jags! Some of you may know exactly what you want to major in, and some of you may have no clue. Don't worry! It's okay if you fit into either of these categories. For me, I was pretty confident that I wanted to major in Biomedical Sciences on the pre-medical track. In case you're looking into what you want to major in, here is some insight for my life as a Biomedical Sciences student.

Although I am in my first year, I have learned these 5 things about Biomedical Sciences...
1. It prepares you for medical school.
The Biomedical Sciences major is a popular one for pre-med students like myself. The requirements for pre-med school are embedded into the curriculum needed for the major, so it is easy to stay on track for your degree and for pre-professional school.

                                                                                            2. We have our own library!

The Biomedical Library has a wide variety of information, including numerous texts about medicine. Many upperclassmen find this place a great area to study and find resources to help them succeed in their upper level courses. It is also just a short walk to the Allied Health Building, where some BMD courses are taught.

3.You can be involved in the Biomedical Sciences Society!
This organization has given me a look into what my future is like as a BMD student by being surrounded by upperclassmen and meeting professors. The Biomedical Sciences Society hosts many speakers, including professors with research projects, doctors, and current medical students. Being a part of this group helps you make friends with those who have the same interests as you as well!

4. There are many research opportunities.
Essentially all of the BMD professors engage in research in which undergraduate students can participate. If you like research or simply want to learn more about lab experiences with a great mentor, BMD can help you with that! Many students in the Biomedical Sciences major enjoy having a research experience, which often helps them later on in their careers.

5. You see your friends often!
Because many students are in the BMD major for their medical career future, they are usually involved in various clubs and organizations on campus, including the pre-health organization, Alpha Epsilon Delta. Many BMD students are in this society and all work together for service, fundraising, and community. It's great to see your friends and classmates outside the classroom and in the community!
